What are some places Omani citizens can visit in Turkey?

If you are planning to visit Turkey from Oman, you can check our list of places given below to get a better idea about Turkey:

The Blue Mosque

Turkey's most visited monument and the most renowned Blue Mosque officially called the Sultanahmet Mosque, is located across Sultanahmet Park from the Hagia Sophia Mosque.

By designating the mosque after the Hagia Sophia, Sultan Ahmed I followed the blueprints of the most renowned Turkish architect of the era, Sinan, who was one of Sultan Ahmed I's disciples.

All about the Blue Mosque is grand, but its interior is especially notable for its thousands of blue Iznik tiles (for which it got its name), and shards of light shining through 260 windows. Outside of prayer times, non-worshipping visitors are welcome.

Ani

Against the modern border with Armenia, the ruins of the Silk Road city of Ani stand abandoned. Ani's golden age came to an end in the 14th century after raids by the Mongols, earthquake destruction, and trade route tussling all contributed to the city's decline.

Among the steppe grass, the red-brick buildings still crumble away, captivating all who see them. It is worth visiting the Church of the Redeemer and the Church of Saint Gregory, where fresco remnants are still evident; the vast Ani Cathedral building; and the Manuçehr Mosque, the first mosque in what would become Turkey built by the Seljuk Turks in the 11th century.

Safranbolu

One of Turkey's best-preserved Ottoman towns is a superbly photogenic collection of narrow alleys lined with elegant wooden mansions once owned by wealthy merchants and now used as boutique hotels and restaurants.

There isn't much to do in town. It is, however, a fascinating place to simply stroll through the streets and admire the old-world atmosphere. There are also many cute shops where you can pick up unique souvenirs and the country is well known for its traditional sweets and crafts.

Make sure to take a stop off at Safranbolu while road-tripping for spending the night and encounter the historic ambience of the place.

The Bosphorous

Separating Europe from Asia and connecting the Black and Marmara Seas, the Bosphorus Strait is one of the world's largest waterways. A cruise along the Bosphorus is one of the main lures for the tourists staying in Istanbul, whether by local ferry, sightseeing ferry or private boat. This is Istanbul's most relaxing sightseeing option.

Being the most relaxing sightseeing option for travellers, you can enjoy the views from the water at ease, with the coastline lined with Ottoman palaces. villas;  wooden villas up to the Rumeli Fortress built by Mehmet the Conqueror; and the Byzantine ramparts of Anadolu Fortress.

The Basilica Cistern

The Basilica Cistern is one of Istanbul's most impressive tourist attractions. Supported by 336 columns on 12 levels, this vast palatial underground hall once housed the imperial water supply for the Byzantine emperors.

The project was started by Constantine the Great but was completed by Emperor Justinian in the 6th century.

The most famous of these is the base of a pillar known as the Medusa Stone in the northwest corner, which has a carving of Medusa's head. Enjoy the atmospheric visit to the Basilica Cistern with its beautifully lit pillars and calm, steady water that trickles around you.

Istanbul

Istanbul is not only the largest city in Turkey but also one of the largest cities in the world. Once the capital of the Ottoman and Byzantine Empires, Istanbul stretches on both sides of the Bosphorus, the narrow strait that connects Asia and Europe, making it the only city in the world to straddle two continents. Remarkable architecture, historic sites, restaurants, shopping, nightlife and exotic atmosphere make Istanbul one of the most popular travel destinations in the world.

Istanbul is home to most of Turkey’s tourist attractions including the city's historic sites, such as the Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, etc. Alternatively, another significant district is New City, mostly famous for its contemporary attractions, skyscrapers, shopping malls and other entertainment facilities. The Bosphorus region also has captivating palaces, seaside estates and city parks.
